“Bandits, during an attack on Saya-Saya Village in Kaduna State’s Ikara Local Government Area on Friday, tragically killed seven worshippers. The incident occurred while Muslim worshippers were observing the Isha’i (sunset) prayers at a local mosque in the area.
Of the victims, five individuals, including an unidentified vigilante leader, were fatally shot by the attackers during the prayers. Additionally, two other victims lost their lives at different locations within the village,” a source reported to our correspondent over the phone.
Abdulrahman Yusuf, the village head of the community, confirmed the incident and revealed that the head of the village’s vigilantes was among those killed inside the mosque. He explained that the vigilante leader had been tracked to the mosque, where he and the other victims were ambushed and shot by the assailants.”
“It is believed that the attackers followed the vigilante leader to the mosque with the intent to harm him. During our prayers inside the mosque, they arrived and initiated gunfire, resulting in the death of five individuals inside the mosque. Additionally, a driver delivering food supplies to the village was killed, and another person lost their life in a nearby village,” he recounted.
Yusuf also mentioned that security measures had been intensified in Ikara following the attack.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mansir Alhassan, confirmed the incident when speaking to our correspondent on the phone on Saturday. He stated that police personnel had been deployed to search the nearby bushes in an effort to apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act.”
