Former World 100m hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan, has slipped one position in the latest World Athletics ranking, as reported by Punch Sports Extra.
Amusan, who lost her world women’s 100m hurdles title to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August, is now ranked 25th globally. However, she retains her No. 2 spot in the 100m hurdles, with Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn holding the top position.
Ese Brume has also experienced a drop in her ranking. The 27-year-old athlete was ranked 142nd last week after jumping 6.84m to secure fourth place at the World Championship. In the current ranking, she occupies the 150th position in the overall women’s ranking.
Despite the fall in her overall ranking, Brume maintains her status as the fifth-best ranked athlete in the women’s long jump event. She is behind the reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Ivana Vuleta of Serbia, the USA duo Tara Davis-Woodhall and Quanesha Burks, and Italian athlete Larissa Iapichino.
Both Amusan and Brume have an opportunity to improve their rankings if they perform well in their respective events at the upcoming Diamond League final in Oregon, USA.
Meanwhile, shot putter Chukwuebuka Enekwechi remains the highest-ranked Nigerian athlete in the overall men’s ranking. Enekwechi holds the 194th position, followed by sprinters Udodi Onwuzurike (316) and Ushoritse Itshekiri (514) in second and third place, respectively.
