Osimhen partnership thrills Boniface

Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has expressed his excitement about teaming up with Napoli’s superstar, Victor Osimhen, in the Super Eagles’ friendly match against Saudi Arabia in Portugal, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Eagles played to a 2-2 draw against the Green Falcons at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão. After the game, Boniface shared his positive feelings about partnering with Osimhen and also discussed the match itself.

“I’m really pleased to play alongside him (Osimhen), and it’s a source of happiness for me to be on the field together. It’s a long journey, and I feel a sense of pride,” said the 22-year-old.

He also commented on the game, acknowledging that although they didn’t achieve the desired result, it was a valuable training match in preparation for upcoming tournaments.

“It was a good game. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we were hoping for, but it serves as a training game to prepare us for the tournaments ahead. We knew we were up against a strong opponent with an experienced coach, but it’s all part of our preparation, so we’ll keep working,” Boniface explained.

The Leverkusen forward also revealed that the Eagles are looking forward to the 2026 World Cup qualification process, with their first game against Lesotho in November.

“Our focus is on the World Cup qualification game first, and after that, we’ll shift our attention to the Nations Cup. We have a talented group of individuals from various leagues, so it takes time for us to build something cohesive, which we are currently working on. However, in the long run, we believe we can achieve our goals,” he added.

Boniface has been a standout performer in the German league, delivering consistently excellent performances. The former Union Saint-Gilloise attacker has earned consecutive Bundesliga Rookie of the Month awards for August and September and appears poised to repeat this feat as Player of the Month as well.
