Suspected criminals have ignited a fire that engulfed the rural residence of Canice Nwachukwu, the legislator representing Orlu/Oru East/Orsu Federal Constituency in Imo State’s House of Representatives, known as Omeogo.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning, just hours before the start of a two-day South-East summit on the economy and security in Owerri, which was attended by the region’s five governors.

According to a source, the assailants, armed with explosives, metal objects, and fuel, looted some belongings from the politician’s home before setting it ablaze. They also recorded videos of the compound and domestic staff, issuing threats of further violence. The incident took place in Abara, within the Amanator Okporo community in Orlu Local Government Area. Fortunately, the staff managed to escape before the arson.

The police in the state, represented by Henry Okoye, confirmed that an investigation into the case has been initiated.
