The federal government clarified that it did not authorize anyone to negotiate with bandits on its behalf. This statement comes in response to the allegations made by Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, that federal agencies were secretly negotiating with bandits in the state without his knowledge.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of State, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, both denied the governor’s claims, describing them as false and misleading. They emphasized that no one has been mandated to negotiate with bandits on behalf of the federal government.

Regarding the recent kidnapping of female students in Zamfara, the ministers reassured the public that efforts were underway to secure their quick release. They expressed confidence in the joint security task forces and called for intensified efforts to bring the abducted students back safely. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had given orders to the military and other security agencies to ensure the students’ release, and progress was being made in this regard.

The ministers extended their condolences to the affected families and condemned the reprehensible act carried out by suspected bandits. They emphasized their commitment to securing the release of the abducted students and protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.
