CAF confirms Enyimba for African Football League

Enyimba, the reigning champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League, officially announced through their official Twitter account on Wednesday that they have been included as one of the eight teams set to participate in the inaugural African Football League, according to a report from PUNCH Sports Extra.

Scheduled to commence on October 20 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the AFL has generated great anticipation. The highly awaited draw for the tournament is planned to occur in Cairo, Egypt on September 2. The event is anticipated to span an eventful four weeks.

In preparation for this highly anticipated competition, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has introduced the lineup of eight esteemed clubs that have merited the privilege to engage in the inaugural event. The collaboration between CAF and FIFA is poised to redefine African football, as per the AFL statement.

The selection of these eight prominent teams followed an exhaustive assessment procedure that encompasses three distinct African regional sectors: North, Central-West, and South-East. This allocation strategy aims to ensure equitable representation of premier talents from various corners of the continent.

From the Northern region, reigning African champions Al Ahly from Egypt, alongside Tunisia’s Esperance and Morocco’s Raja Casablanca, were chosen to partake in the event.

In the Central-Western region, former African champions Enyimba and TP Mazembe from DR Congo earned their spot. From the South-Eastern region, the selection included South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, Angola’s Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, and Tanzania’s Simba Sports Club.

Enyimba, the champions of Nigeria, particularly stand out as the nation’s most accomplished football club. They possess a notable track record, boasting numerous league titles and two Champions League victories.
