Corruption allegations: “The BAVCCA asserts that the corruption accusations against the FCT Chief Judge are baseless falsehoods and an attempt at inexpensive blackmail.”

“The Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association (BAVCCA), representing a collective of bloggers, strongly denounced allegations of corruption against Federal Capital Territory Chief Judge Husseini Baba-Yusuf as baseless falsehoods and a smear campaign by unidentified bloggers. This declaration was made by BAVCCA’s National President, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, during a press conference. Chukwunyere clarified that the Association’s comprehensive investigation found the accusations against Justice Baba-Yusuf to be groundless. He expressed bewilderment at a publication claiming to be the result of seven weeks of discreet interviews with five judges, stating it was a concoction of lies, displaying ignorance, and creating falsehoods better suited for folklore, akin to “Tales by Moonlight.” Chukwunyere emphasized that the Chief Judge’s role in relation to other judges is that of being the first among equals.”

“Honourable Justice Hussaini Baba Yusuf is fully aware of this, and he has consistently maintained a harmonious relationship founded on mutual respect with his fellow Judges. In the execution of his duties, he has consistently upheld fairness towards his colleagues, ensuring they receive their rightful entitlements, rights, and privileges without any discrimination.

His fellow Judges have, both publicly and in private discussions, expressed their satisfaction with his collaborative approach, where he actively involves them in enhancing justice delivery in the FCT. The Chief Judge treats all judges equally, and they have all had the opportunity to attend various training programs, seminars, and conferences as per the court’s financial capacity.

However, on specific occasions, some Judges are selected not by the Chief Judge but by external bodies like the National Judicial Council (NJC), National Judicial Institute (NJI), or foreign organizations for certain conferences or training events, both within and outside the country. In such cases, the Chief Judge’s role is to facilitate their participation. Accusing him of favoritism in these situations would be unreasonable since he didn’t make the nominations.

Furthermore, the Chief Judge has taken proactive measures to shield his fellow Judges from numerous petitions, aiming to provide them with a conducive working environment free from harassment.”

“At times, even when it was apparent that some of his fellow Judges had acted inappropriately on certain occasions, the Chief Judge, out of a desire to avoid subjecting them to the cumbersome process involved in addressing such issues, personally intervened to reconcile the parties involved.

It is equally important to clarify that when serious allegations are made against his fellow Judges, or when such complaints are channeled through the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Chief Judge has no choice but to allow the standard procedure to run its course. This may, understandably, disappoint some of his colleagues who may have expected him to shield them from all petitions, regardless of their gravity.

Regarding the bloggers, Chukwunyere stated that their identities would be revealed. The Committee’s report concluded that Chief Judge Husseini Baba-Yusuf was innocent of all allegations.

In summary, the Bloggers and Vloggers Content Creators Association (BAVCCA) has decided to debunk the claims against Chief Judge Husseini Baba-Yusuf, which include allegations of corruption and personnel grievances that could significantly impact the administration of justice in the nation’s capital. BAVCCA asserts that these claims are false and baseless, originating from faceless individuals with political motives and a penchant for cheap blackmail.

BAVCCA, representing bloggers, vloggers, and content creators, disapproves of its members being used as tools for disseminating unsubstantiated information in the media. Bloggers who engage in spreading such false news will face penalties.

After conducting independent investigations, BAVCCA found that the published stories and reports were fabricated and devoid of truth. The allegation that Justice Baba-Yusuf exploited judges’ meager allowances, neglected their courtrooms, and encouraged bribery is unfounded. Justice Baba-Yusuf is committed to prioritizing the welfare of judges in Abuja.

BAVCCA condemns the hasty publication of these allegations without thorough verification or balanced reporting by some news outlets. These allegations against Chief Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf have never been substantiated and are evidently concocted by individuals with malicious intent towards the judiciary.

BAVCCA calls on Nigerians to dismiss this attempt at cheap blackmail and acknowledges Chief Judge Husseini Baba-Yusuf’s positive impact on the judiciary’s transformation and productivity. He has received local and international recognition and awards for his contributions.

It is noteworthy that no petition has been filed against Chief Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf with the National Judicial Council since his appointment in 1998, demonstrating his commitment to upholding pure and unadulterated justice.

Through proactive measures, he has enhanced the integrity and independence of the judiciary, earning accolades from members of the legal community and judiciary staff.

BAVCCA assures Nigerians of its commitment to upholding the principles of responsible journalism and impartiality in serving the public.”
