Defection: APC NWC to welcome Shaibu next week

  • Post category:Politics

In light of his disagreements with Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) next week, unless unforeseen circumstances arise. A reliable source within the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) disclosed this information on the condition of anonymity.

However, Shaibu’s move to the APC appears to face resistance due to the stance of Senator Adams Oshiomhole. Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the APC and former governor of Edo State, stated that the party is not a rehabilitation center for distressed politicians.

Shaibu’s possible defection to the APC is influenced by his differences with Governor Obaseki, particularly concerning a reported impeachment plot against him. The Federal High Court in Abuja has renewed an order halting any impeachment proceedings against Shaibu and scheduled a hearing for August 22.

Despite reports of his defection, Shaibu has distanced himself from the claim, describing it as another falsehood. He emphasized his loyalty to Governor Obaseki and dismissed the idea of returning to the APC.

The APC source stated that Shaibu had been in talks with both state and national party leadership before the publicized feud with the governor. The party is prepared to receive him into its fold.

Obaseki, however, expressed surprise and disappointment at Shaibu’s legal action to prevent his alleged impeachment, viewing it as preemptive ahead of a potential defection to the APC.

Oshiomhole, in response, emphasized the importance of loyalty in politics and hinted that the APC is not seeking distressed politicians seeking refuge.

The ongoing developments highlight the complex political landscape in Edo State and the uncertainty surrounding Shaibu’s political future.
