“Adaeze Lawrence, a 28-year-old woman, is presently held in custody by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly abducting a one-month-and-two-day-old baby boy belonging to her friend, Onyinyechi Owujie.

According to information gathered by PUNCH Metro, Lawrence gained the trust of the baby’s mother through their friendship before committing the crime. The suspect, who works as a hairstylist, was connected to Owujie’s elder sister, who she knew from school, and used this connection to gain access to Owujie.

During a celebration of the baby’s birth that she had proposed, Lawrence reportedly disappeared with the baby. The case was promptly reported to the police, which led to her arrest at a concealed location.

In an official statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chioma Chinaka, it was revealed that credible intelligence led to the arrest of Adaeze Lawrence on August 14, 2023, by the Abia State Police Special Weapons and Tactics Team in Aba. The suspect was found in possession of the one-month-and-two-day-old baby boy.

Upon interrogation, Lawrence initially denied the crime, claiming that the child was hers. However, after medical examinations from the police clinic proved otherwise, she confessed to the abduction. The biological mother of the child identified the baby, confirming the incident on August 6, 2023.

ASP Chioma Chinaka stated that an ongoing investigation is in progress. She advised the public to be vigilant about their children’s safety, especially in public places, and to exercise caution when strangers show interest in their children.”
