“That’s only the beginning”- Dessers remains optimistic about Rangers despite slow start

Cyriel Dessers, the Super Eagles striker, remains hopeful that Rangers will overcome their slow start to the season and find their rhythm, as reported by Soccernet.

In the past two seasons, the Gers have fallen short of securing the Scottish Premiership title, consistently trailing behind Celtic. Last November, following a lackluster start to the previous season, Rangers dismissed Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and appointed Michael Beale as their coach.

Under Beale’s leadership, the English manager has begun his first full campaign this season, making several additions to the squad during the summer transfer window. One of the newcomers is Nigerian striker Dessers, who joined Rangers from Cremonese in a €5.5 million deal.

However, the beginning of the season hasn’t been without its challenges for Rangers. They suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Kilmarnock in their opening game, followed by a 2-1 victory over Servette in a UEFA Champions League qualifier, although the win was accompanied by a hint of uncertainty due to their struggles in the final third.

Dessers has played in both of Rangers’ initial matches, acknowledging the shaky start but expressing confidence that the team will improve as the season unfolds, leading to more favorable outcomes.

In his words, “The victory against Servette is what we aimed for. After the loss to Kilmarnock on Saturday, it didn’t mean we were a weak team or anything like that. We recognized the need to begin strongly, and I think we demonstrated that, particularly in the first half hour.”

Dessers, who recently scored his debut goal for Rangers against Servette, looks forward to building on this success as his team strives for their first Premiership win of the season.
