The military leadership has refuted receiving any request to destabilize the country’s democratic system, affirming its allegiance to President Bola Tinubu.

In response to concerns raised on Friday regarding comments suggesting military intervention in the democratic process due to allegations of poor troop welfare, the Defence Headquarters issued a statement on Sunday. Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, clarified that the military never received any request to assume government control in the country.

The statement emphasized, “The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has not received nor made such a declaration to any individual or group. Such reports are false and disturbing, likely originating from those with negative intentions towards our nation’s progress.”

It further asserted the AFN’s strong commitment to democracy, reaffirming loyalty to President Tinubu as the Commander-in-Chief. The military’s primary focus is upholding the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The military high command revealed that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible for spreading this misleading report. The statement concluded with an appeal for individuals spreading falsehoods to cease such activities, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
