Air Peace reported on Wednesday that a passenger on one of its flights allegedly stole N1 million from another passenger’s bag but was apprehended.

According to the airline’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, the incident occurred onboard flight P47192 from Abuja to Port Harcourt on July 27. In a statement released in Lagos, Olisa explained that the suspect took advantage of the flight to steal the money, which was inside a brown envelope, from another passenger’s bag. However, the owner of the money noticed the theft, and with the assistance of the airline’s staff, the suspect was caught.

During the flight, the suspect initially took another passenger’s computer bag from the overhead cabin and then proceeded to take the brown envelope with the money. He placed the computer bag in another luggage compartment and moved to an empty seat at the back of the aircraft.

Despite the crew’s announcement of a proper disembarkation sequence, the suspect was among the first few to disembark. However, he was eventually apprehended, and the money was retrieved from him. Upon searching him, different currencies in various denominations were found.

The suspect was handed over to the security operatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria for further investigation, and subsequently, the police confirmed that he had been released on bail.
