Fake Kidnap: Girls Demand ₦100k: The Ondo schoolgirls have requested a ₦100k ransom from their mother after staging their own abduction.

Two teenage sisters have been apprehended by the Ondo Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, for orchestrating their own abduction and demanding ransom from their mother. The incident occurred when the 13-year-old and 15-year-old girls locked themselves in a hotel room and contacted their mother, posing as kidnappers and demanding ₦100,000 for their release. Additionally, they called and issued threats to the local monarch, instructing him to pay the ransom within 24 hours.

During a press conference held at the command headquarters in Akure on Monday, July 17, 2023, Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye disclosed that the two sisters were found hiding in the hotel located in the Akoko area of the state. Among the 28 individuals paraded as suspects, Adeleye emphasized the prevalence of kidnapping cases in the region and the efforts being made to eradicate such criminal activities.

According to Adeleye, a thorough investigation led to the unraveling of the truth behind the sisters’ disappearance, and they eventually confessed to their involvement. The younger sister confessed that her elder sibling had persuaded her to participate in the scheme. Recounting the events, she revealed that her sister devised a plan to extort money from their mother by staging their own kidnapping and demanding ₦50,000 each as ransom. Unaware that they were speaking to the monarch on the phone, they made threats of harm to their “captives” if the ransom was not promptly paid.

The joint operation conducted by Amotekun and the State Security Service (SSS) successfully tracked the phone line used by the teenagers to communicate with their mother, leading to their arrest.
