The DSS has filed charges against Emefiele in court.

According to a press statement issued on Thursday, the Department of State Security Service (DSS) has initiated legal proceedings against Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The agency stated that it has charged Emefiele in compliance with a directive from the Abuja High Court.

In their official statement released on Twitter, the DSS assured the public that they would handle Emefiele’s case with the utmost respect for the rule of law and professionalism. The statement confirms that the DSS acted based on an Abuja High Court order issued on July 13, 2023.

The DSS further explained that they had previously applied for a court order to detain Emefiele in 2022 as part of a criminal investigation. Although Emefiele obtained a restraining order from an FCT High Court, the DSS arrested him in June 2023 on the basis of suspected new criminal infractions or information, one of which led to his current prosecution.

The DSS reassured the public that they would approach the matter with professionalism, ensuring justice and fairness in accordance with the law while carrying out their duties.
