Four killed as troops battle Zamfara bandits

The Nigerian Army has announced that troops from Operation Hadarin Daji successfully rescued 24 individuals who were abducted by bandits in Zamfara State. The rescue operation took place after a fierce gun battle between soldiers and the bandits on Friday. According to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, four bandits were killed during the exchange of gunfire.

In a statement, Brigadier General Nwachukwu explained that the operation was carried out by troops from the 223 Battalion, operating under Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force, North West Operations Hadarin Daji. The rescue operation took place in the early hours of July 7, 2023, in an abandoned village called Kabugu Lamba, located in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State in the North West region of Nigeria.

The commanding officer of the battalion led the troops in a strategic operation, ambushing and engaging the bandits. As a result, four of the bandits were neutralized during the intense firefight. The rescued individuals, which included a child, nine females, and fourteen males, were safely evacuated from the kidnappers’ hideout by the troops.
