Anambra government installs clock-in devices for health workers

  • Post category:Health

Anambra State Government has installed clock-in devices in public health facilities to curb absenteeism and ensure that health workers are present to attend to patients.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, said that he had observed that many health workers were absent from their posts during his unannounced visits to hospitals. He said that this absenteeism has contributed to mortalities in the state and hindered progress in the health sector.

The clock-in devices will be used to monitor the hours that health workers put in each day. This information will be used to determine their salaries and allowances.

The state government is also taking other steps to improve the health sector, such as establishing a “hub and spoke” approach for networking among hospitals, providing telemedicine to primary healthcare centers, and strengthening general hospitals in each local government area.

The Commissioner said that the state government is doing all it can with limited resources, and that health workers cannot afford to fail.
