Shell Nigeria Gas Limited has announced the appointment of Ralph Gbobo as the new Managing Director of the company, effective from July 1, 2023. This appointment comes after Ed Ubong, the former Managing Director, moved to a different role within the Shell group.
Gbobo previously held the position of Manager, Commercial and Non-Operated Venture at The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) and also served as the Shell Shareholders Representative for seven onshore non-operated venture assets. He brings a wealth of experience in the oil and gas industry to his new role at Shell Nigeria Gas Limited, which is a part of the Shell Energy business line in Nigeria.
Markus Hector, the General Manager of Shell Energy Nigeria, expressed his confidence in Gbobo’s appointment, stating that it reflects his diligence, competence, and commitment to Shell’s core values. Gbobo’s responsibilities will include leading Shell Nigeria Gas Limited and driving its domestic gas growth aspirations in a safe and sustainable manner, with a focus on supporting the development of the Nigerian economy through the gas-to-energy value chain.
Gbobo, expressing his gratitude for the appointment, emphasized his determination to foster innovation, promote sustainable growth, and create shared value. He aims to collaborate with the team to advance the energy sector, empower communities, and deliver outstanding performance in order to achieve a cleaner and more promising energy future for Nigeria.
With a career spanning 21 years at Shell, Gbobo has held various roles in both the downstream and upstream sectors, including crude and products supply and trading development, as well as commercial and gas integration management positions. He holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering and an MBA. Gbobo is known for his passion for talent development and manages a diverse team focused on bridging the energy gap in Nigeria.
Outside of work, Gbobo enjoys activities such as fishing, sailing, traveling, and golf. He is a father of four boys.
